Rangers ravaged by bans

Berwick begin their Third Division campaign at home to Elgin with a host of suspension absentees.

Steven Notman, Ben Miller and Dean Hoskins are the players who are banned while striker Stuart Noble remains out with a hamstring problem.

Manager Ian Little is still out of the country on a family commitment so assistant boss Robbie Horn will take charge of first-team affairs.

Ahead of the game he said: "We have played really well in our opening two cup games and scored five times but have nothing to show for it.

"To score three times against Raith Rovers, a First Division side, last week was very encouraging but to concede four was disappointing and hopefully we can show our defensive side against Elgin."

Horn added: "The Play-offs are our aim this season and picking up three points would be a terrific start towards that goal."

Elgin captain David Niven is expected to shake off a knock in time to make the long trip to Shielfield.

Manager Ross Jack has praised the defender for his resolute nature.

Jack, who is without Jamie Duff because of a knee injury and striker Paul Millar who remains on Olympic security duty in London, said: "It looked like David would be out as he had missed training but he is a hardy soul and he says he is ready to play."

The Elgin boss added: "We lost to Falkirk last week but it was a good game.

"We will head to Berwick with confidence looking to repeat our opening day success over them from last season, although that game was at Borough Briggs and our record at Shielfield is not so good."
