Mbia injury adds to Marseille's woes

Ligue 1 giants Marseille will have to do without Cameroon international Stephane Mbia for a month after scans revealed he had suffered an injury to the tendon in his thigh during their French Cup match on Sunday.

The 25-year-old - who can play either in central defence or in midfield - had to go off 20 minutes from the end of the 3-1 win over Ligue 2 outfit Le Havre and the club said on its website on Monday that he would miss around a month because of the injury.

His injury couldn't have come at a worse time for the League Cup holders as with little money in the bank to add players their squad has been weakened by the departures of central defender Souleymane Diawara, midfielder Charles Kabore and the Ayew brothers, Jordan and Andre, for the Africa Cup of Nations.

It comes as Marseille face three crucial matches in a fortnight Sunday's away league match against Rennes, then a home match against Nice and a League Cup semi-final against Lyon on February 5.
