Marseille fans withdraw sub-human players blast

Ultra fans of French side Marseille took down an explosive Internet posting on Sunday in which they blasted players as "sub-human".

The South Winners, one of the club's two main supporter factions, said their vitriolic criticism of their team was sparked by a humiliating midweek French Cup exit against Nice.

Fans also said they had been sickened by graffiti making fun of the tragic death of coach Jose Anigo's son who was shot dead in September last year.

"We condemn this odious graffiti, we have no knowledge of these acts," said a statement released by the fans who added that their unhappiness with their team was heartfelt.

"We were angry with the players who violate the shirt but we under-estimated the impact of our text."

After the defeat to Nice, the fans vented their anger on their website.

"They (the players) feel they are untouchable. We say make their lives hell every day, in the streets, at the bakery, in the restaurants, at the disco...Humiliate these sub-humans," they wrote.

Marseille are ninth in the French first division and have been knocked out of the Champions League.
