Marseille goalkeeper Steve Mandanda, who had to withdraw from France's 23-man World Cup squad due to a neck injury, could resume training in mid-July, his club said Monday.

Mandanda, 29, who has won 16 caps and is habitually France's second-choice goalkeeper, suffered a cracked vertebra in his neck following a collision with Guingamp striker Mustapha Yatabare in the final Ligue 1 match of the season.

The Democratic of Congo-born Mandanda on Monday "consulted the neurosurgical specialists and his return to training is envisaged for mid-July", Marseille said.

"Tests will be carried out at the start of June," added the club, with the 2014/15 Ligue 1 season slated to kick off on August 8.
