Stags wait on Baptiste bids

Mansfield Town boss Billy Dearden has dismissed talk of an approach from Hartlepool United for Stags defender Alex John-Baptiste.

The 21-year-old stopper has yet to agree a new deal at Field Mill, with Dearden still hopeful of keeping one of his brightest stars at the club.

He told the Nottingham Evening Post: "(Pools boss) Danny Wilson has not spoken to me about Alex, although I do know he likes him as a player.

"If there has been a bid for him it will have gone through the chairman or chief executive, not through me.

"I haven't spoken to Alex for a while, but I expect I will to see what he intends to do. I still want to keep him here.

"But you can't keep waiting for players forever."
