Mansfield Town chief executive Stephen Booth has confirmed that a proposed takeover of the club has fallen through.
A deal between current owner Keith Haslam and a group of local businessmen was thought to be on the verge of being sealed, but it now appears that proposed investors pulled out at the last minute.
Booth told the club's official website: "There's been plenty of speculation in recent weeks and months regarding the future ownership of the club.
"I'd like to put on record that we've been working very closely in an attempt to resolve these issues.
"We're pleased to state that an agreement was reached between a consortium headed by James Derry and the current owner of the majority shares, Keith Haslam.
"Unfortunately, on two occasions, just as we were ready to conclude the agreement major investors have pulled out."
