Stags close in on Charlton

Mansfield Town manager Peter Shirtliff is on the verge of adding Redditch United defender Asa Charlton to his Field Mill squad.
The 28-year-old has impressed in two trials with the Stags and is now set to sign a permanent deal with the League Two side, although he will be unable to play in this weekend's FA Cup clash with Accrington Stanley as he is cup-tied.
"Asa is a tough boy who is never fazed by anything and - at 28 - he's quite mature," Shirtliff told Town's official website.
"We needed strengthening in that area and the chairman has allowed me to do it.
"I know Asa has never played in the League, but he's always played at a decent standard and he was on Stoke's books when he was younger.
"He came up in the summer and again for a week's training and he's done well. I also have people in the Midlands who have recommended him strongly."
