Mansfield Town have completed the signing of veteran centre-half Martin McIntosh on an initial one-year contract, following his release by Huddersfield Town.
The 36-year-old Scotsman was wanted by a couple of other clubs, but opted to remain close to his Sheffield base.
Stags assistant manager, Paul Holland, told the Nottingham Evening Post: "It is a big signing for us and he is someone we have been after since just after the end of last season.
"He is your typical Scottish hard man who is an excellent defender and a great organiser.
"There were other clubs interested and I think one of them offered slightly more money than we did.
"But he lives close to us in Sheffield and we have sold the club to him and the potential we have here and he likes what he has heard."
