Paul Holland is keen to be named as Billy Dearden's permanent successor after being confirmed as Mansfield Town's caretaker manager for Tuesday's game against high-flying Hereford United.
Dearden left the Stags on Saturday evening in the wake of the 4-0 home drubbing by Rochdale, a result that left the club entrenched in the relegation zone.
Holland, who had been working as Dearden's assistant, told the Chad: "I've always said I'd like to do be involved in management and Mansfield Town is my club.
"I've been with them since I was 12 and the job doesn't hold any fears for me. No-one wants this club to do better than I do.
"I know some people may say we need someone in with experience, but no-one knows those players in the dressing room better than me.
"If you want to be in the football business, opportunities like this have to be grasped. I'd love the job."
Holland will be assisted by youth team coach Ivan Hollett and veteran goalkeeper Carl Muggleton.
