Mansfield Town have signed loan defender Rhys Day on an 18-month contract from Manchester City, while Mark Lever has left the Stags.

Day, still only 20, has impressed since moving to Field Mill in late November and Stags boss Keith Curle was eager to hold on to the young Welshman.

Curle told the club's official website: "I can see things in the way that Rhys plays that I like and I believe I can help turn him into an even better player."

Meanwhile, veteran Lever has made his exit after agreeing to have his contract paid up by the club and has joined Dr Martens League outfit Ilkeston Town.

Commenting on his exit, Lever said: "When you get to my age it doesn't really matter where you play.

"I could have gone to Kidderminster, but I have just settled in the Mansfield area and Ilkeston is a lot handier, so it seems the best choice."
