Brown blow for Stags

Wednesday Apr 05 2006 10:56

Mansfield midfielder Simon Brown has been ruled out for the rest of the season after admitting defeat in his bid to play through the pain barrier with a hernia problem.

The 22-year-old was hoping to delay his operation until the end of the season but the pain has become too much and he is set to undergo surgery later this month to sort the problem once and for all.

"I've been playing as much as I can and hoped I could make it until the end of the season," Brown revealed.

"But the twisting and turning has taken its toll and after each game the pain has got worse.

"I've provisionally booked in for an operation later this month to get it sorted out."
