Mansfield Town have offered Alex John-Baptiste a new three-year contract to try and ward off possible interest in the promising young defender.
The 21-year-old has emerged as a major talent at Field Mill, with Stags boss Billy Dearden desperate to keep hold of the young stopper.
He told The Chad: "Towards the end of the season he was playing better than he has for a long time and really came out of himself and was a leader.
"So far no-one has been on the phone to me about him which is good news for us.
"Alex has come through our junior ranks and done well. Now he deserves to be rewarded.
"We are not trying to keep him on the cheap. He is being offered good money to stay here."
