New-look Stage primed for opener

Mansfield will field a new-look side in their opening-day game against Carlisle, having made 13 signings this summer.

Stags fans will be familiar with Matt Green, who has returned for his second spell with the club, while fellow new recruits Craig Westcarr and Chris Beardsley will also be hoping to start at the One Call Stadium.

Mansfield will be without long-term absentees Matty Blair and Luke Jones, who are both recovering from serious knee injuries.

Boss Adam Murray is optimistic about his side's chances after an encouraging pre-season and said: "We want to put our game on to Carlisle and make sure they come to this arena and know that they've been in a game."

Carlisle's new signing Tom Miller is expected to make his debut after impressing in pre-season when manager Keith Curle overhauled his squad.

Defender Miller was among 11 players recruited, but there will be no place for triallists Phil Billing and Nicky Walker after Curle decided against retaining them.

Other potential debutants include midfielders Angelo Balanta, Joe Thompson and Kevin Osei, plus defenders Alex McQueen and David Atkinson.

Curle said: "The important thing is for people not to get off the bus if they aren't involved, because there will be some who are disappointed."
