Mansfield too strong for Crawley

Mansfield roared to a 4-0 success over 10-man Crawley as they chalked up their first home win of the season.

Craig Westcarr might have put Stags ahead in the first minute as he chased a Nicky Hunt throughball, but Freddie Woodman was down to block at the near post.

But Nathan Thomas broke the deadlock a minute from the break as he cut out Lee Barnard's intended pass to Jimmy Smith and burst into the box before beating keeper Freddie Woodman with a ferocious finish from the left.

But the game was dramatically sealed on the restart with a second Mansfield goal and a red card for Crawley.

First Mitchell Rose drilled Mansfield 2-0 ahead with a low finish from 20 yards through a crowded box as Crawley tried to clear a corner after 47 minutes. Three minutes later Gwion Edwards was shown a straight red for a late challenge on Hunt, appearing to stamp on the defender.

On 67 minutes Matt Green held off two defenders to get away a low shot that clipped the base of the post as Mansfield enjoyed total dominance.

And two goals in as many minutes finally killed off Crawley. After 71 minutes Chris Clements picked up a cleared corner in his own half and sent a superb pass out to Westcarr, onside on the left, who sent a low ball in front of goal where Green turned home.

A minute later it was Green who sent Westcarr clean through, his low 12 yard finish calm and deadly.
