Olejnik off but City cruise to win

York stormed to three precious points in their battle against relegation in an action-packed 4-1 win at Mansfield, despite playing an hour with 10 men.

Brave from the off, York scored twice inside the first 17 minutes through Keith Lowe and Shaq Coulthirst before having goalkeeper Bobby Olejnik sent off for handling outside the box.

However, the Minstermen added a third goal through Jake Hyde just after the break and, despite Matt Rhead pulling one back for the Stags, Coulthirst bagged his second goal of the game near the end to seal City's first win in five games.

Home keeper Lenny Pidgeley was forced to make two good saves early on as York began the afternoon on the front foot.

He turned away a close-range header from Hyde after two minutes and then managed to get down to turn aside a low shot from Josh Carson that took a wicked deflection.

But the visitors were rewarded for their start from the corner as Carson put the ball over and Lowe was there to head in from close range after nine minutes.

York extended that lead as they broke with gusto with Coulthirst racing into the box and, despite being surrounded by defenders, he was able to squeeze home a low finish.

In response, Rakish Bingham thumped a shot against the crossbar for Mansfield. But the home side were given hope in the 32nd minute when Olejnik reached up to stop Bingham beating him with a lob just outside his box and was shown a straight red card.

However, it was the 10 men who extended their lead seven minutes after the break from a corner as Hyde thundered home a header.

York then defended superbly until the 77th minute when substitute Rhead turned to ram the ball home off the inside of a post.

But, with home defender Michael Raynes off the pitch receiving treatment, City had the final say as Coulthirst beat Ryan Tafazolli to the ball and stabbed home a low finish from 12 yards a minute from time.
