Stags open account

Mansfield picked up their first point since returning to the Football League following a 0-0 draw with Exeter.

The Stags, relegated to non-league football in 2008, will feel aggrieved they did not claim maximum points after missing a number of good chances.

Striker Calvin Andrew came close to breaking the deadlock early on but he fired a weak shot at Artur Krysiak after he had turned his man.

Andrew went close again when his bullet header was cleared off the line by Craig Woodman after Krysiakhad flapped at a cross.

Liam Sercombe brought the best out of Krysiak's opposing number Alan Marriott prior to the break when he made a smart stop from a sweetly hit free-kick as the game became stretched.

The hosts started the second half strongly and came close to breaking the deadlock when defender John Dempster powered a header over the bar.

Sam Clucas thought he had put the home side ahead near the hour-mark only to see Krysiak palm his attempted lob to safety.

Substitute Jamie Reid could not grab a late goal in injury time with his weak free-kick not troubling Marriott as both teams had to settle for a point.
