Cambridge held in stalemate

After netting eight goals in their previous two outings, in-form Cambridge United drew a blank in a 0-0 draw at Mansfield Town.

The visitors had the best chance of a first half short on goalmouth action and then dominated the second half, failing to capitalise on several openings, with Swiss keeper Sascha Studer in fine form.

It could have been very different, though, after a moment of high controversy on 18 minutes.

QPR loanee Jamie Sendles-White, making his home debut, dived into a tackle on Richard Tait that saw both sides square up for pushing and shoving. Stags then had to endure a few uncomfortable moments while the officials discussed the tackle before the decision was only a yellow card, to United's anger.

The first half saw few chances, Cambridge going closest on 40 minutes as Fergus Bell had to clear a Michael Nelson header off the line from Ryan Donaldson's left wing corner, Liam Hughes then clipping the outside of the post with his follow-up.

Palace loanee Kwesi Appiah could have had a hat-trick inside five second half minutes.

Home keeper Sasha Studer got down to save his shot on the turn on 53 minutes, then Appiah sent a six yard header tamely at him two minutes later before, on 58 minutes, lashing an 18-yard shot across Studer and against the foot of the far post.

Studer had another save to make on 82 minutes, getting down to his left again to block a low drive from Hughes.
