Welbeck wants top flight loan spell

Preston manager Darren Ferguson believes Danny Welbeck will join a Premier League club on loan next season, but still wants the striker back. North End had the Manchester United youngster, 19, on loan for eight games last season, with the striker scoring twice. He suffered a torn cartilage in his knee and had to return to United for surgery. Ferguson told the Lancashire Evening Post: "I've been speaking to Danny and his brother, who looks after his interests, and things are ongoing on that front. "My feeling is that they think it's right to try and get him out on loan to a Premier League club. "But if that doesn't happen - if he comes to a Championship club - it will be us."
