Wayne Rooney to swap Manchester United for Chelsea? Today's transfer rumours
Rooney has been back to his best this season after renewing his partnership with the man who launched his career, and the smile and jaunty stride would seem to suggest he is more than happy with life at Old Trafford.
But there are suggestions in today’s tabloids that Rooney, who is reported to have topped the rich list of English-born Premier League players, could again be a target for a former suitor.
Chelsea are said to be preparing another move for the England striker whose representatives are reportedly stalling on a possible extension to his contract which expires in 18 months.
For now though Rooney is concentrating on his football, and is both delighted and relieved that United have made it through to the last 16 of the Champions League as group winners.
A solitary strike from Phil Jones was enough to see them to a welcome victory against Shakhtar and Rooney said of the midweek success: "The most important thing was to get back to winning ways and top the group, so we've done that.
"It could have been better at times but it was win at all costs - after the last two games we knew it was vital. The campaign has been good this year in Europe so we just have to try and get consistency in all our games, whether it is Europe or the Premier League."
