Villa happy to stay in Spain

UNITED target David Villa says he's happy to see out his career with Valencia. The 27-year-old Spain international has long been linked with a move away from the Mestalla, with speculation rife earlier this summer that the striker would be sold to ease financial worries. "I could not spend all summer refuting things, so I wanted to be quiet," he said. "I depended on the decision of the club. They decided for me to stay and I am glad. "I was told I should leave Valencia for the good of the club. Soon after that everything changed and from that moment on I never saw myself out of here." Meanwhile, another possible United target, Franck Ribery could yet figure at the start of the Bundesliga after his coach Louis van Gaal said he was making good progress in recovering from a knee injury. The Frenchman has been unable to train for 10 days and will miss Bayern Munich's pre-season friendlies. "He is coming along well and could get back into full training next week," said Van Gaal. Bayern face AC Milan before meeting United or Boca Juniors on Thursday and Van Gaal knows his side are going to have their work cut out putting on the kind of show he has in mind for the club's fans. Tonight will be the first time Van Gaal has led out his side in front of their own fans and he warned it may take a little while longer before they will be thoroughly entertained. "I think we need a full season," he said. "It is a process and we are still lacking players, for example our big star Ribery. "We have only been with this team for three and a half weeks, but I have a good feeling and am confident. "I hope these top teams will please the fans, but that the fans also know that we are still in the preparation period."
