Vidic tries to rally United troops after late pain from Porto at Old Trafford

Published: 08 Apr 2009 - 10:41:04

Nemanja Vidic admitted his Manchester United team-mates will have to pick themselves up after Porto's late equaliser knocked the stuffing out of them at Old Trafford. Mariano Gonzalez scored with 90 seeconds left to silence the home crowd after Wayne Rooney and Carlos Tevez had wiped out Cristian Rodriguez's early opener. 'I wouldn't say our confidence is low, but we were very disappointed with the way the game ended up,' Vidic told MUTV. Heads up: Vidic has issued a battle cry to the Red Devils 'We started badly by losing an early goal, but got ourselves back into it. At 2-1 we knew it would be a good result for us, but it didn't work out that way and we know we need to go to Porto and win the game.'We have the players up front who can score goals, but we won't go there and be stupid by just going on the attack.'They have some very good players, particularly up front, who will be looking to capitalise on any mistakes we might make, so we need to be clever with our play.'Porto have never lost to an English side on home soil and Vidic added: 'I knew what a good team they were before this game - they've shown that over the last few years particularly at home. 'They're a difficult team to beat in Portugal and we're expecting a hard game. But we'll do our best to get the result we want.'  Porto panic: United held by late Gonzalez stunnerManchester Utd 2 Porto 2: Weakness at the back puts Portuguese in box seatMartin Samuel: Marathon men hit the wall as they enter the final stretchYou're running scared of us!
