Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has confirmed that Nemanja Vidic will remain as club captain for the rest of the season.
The Serbia international has been preferred by Ferguson to Rio Ferdinand even though the England defender led the side in Tuesday's Champions League stalemate against Rangers at Old Trafford.
However, Ferguson confirmed: "Vidic started the campaign as captain and it will stay that way.
"What we wanted was someone who was consistently available for us.
"Everyone recognises Nemanja Vidic will always be there. He has been fit all season and you don't leave him out of the team unless you are going to rest him."
Meanwhile, Ferguson is looking forward to Sunday's game against Liverpool, adding: "I sound like a parrot but this is the fixture. There is no question about that. It doesn't change.
"The form fluctuates quite a bit but we won the last game against them so hopefully that turns it back towards us again."
