Vidic Set For Norwegian Encounter
Nemanja Vidic could end eight months out of the game when United take on Norwegian side Valerenga on Sunday.
The Serb has been out of the game since he injured cruciate knee ligaments back in December when United lost to FC Basel.
There was talk of him not being back for the start of the new season, but it now looks like he could be ready to play in a pre-season friendly or two, although he did miss United's tour of South Africa and China.
United have a few problems in defence with Fabio at QPR, Rafael in the Olympics and Chris Smalling is injured along with Jonny Evans.
Ferguson told ESPN: "Chris Smalling is out for 10 weeks with his metatarsal operation and Jonny Evans is still just in light training. They're big losses at the moment and they will miss the start of the season.
“Hopefully we don't get any more injuries as it would leave me a bit short."
