Vidic handed one-match ban
30 Jan 2009 - 16:34:13
Manchester United defender Nemanja Vidic will miss the first leg of the Champions League tie against Internazionale after being handed a one-match ban by FIFA.
The Serbia international has been punished for his red card in last month's Club World Cup final success against LDU Quito.
Vidic was dismissed for swinging an elbow into the face of the Ecuador side's Claudio Bieler in Yokohama on December 21.
He had been facing the possibility of a three-game suspension but a FIFA disciplinary panel have confirmed a one-match ban.
Meanwhile, injured trio Patrice Evra, Nani and Wayne Rooney have all been ruled out of this weekend's Premier League clash with Everton. However, all three should be available for next weekend's trip to West Ham United.
"Nani and Evra are both training with the first team," United boss Sir Alex Ferguson told the club's official website. "Wayne will join us on Monday.
"Nemanja got a knock in training on Thursday but hopefully he'll be all right. He missed training on Friday but we're hoping he'll be OK."
