Vidic back in training

23 Apr 2007 - 14:14:00

Manchester United defender Nemanja Vidic may feature in the first team before the end of the campaign after returning to training on Monday.

It had been feared that the 25-year-old Serbia international would not play again this season after breaking his collarbone in a fall during last month's victory against Blackburn Rovers, but he has made a quicker than expected recovery.

However, he will not play in the Champions League semi-final first leg against AC Milan at Old Trafford, although Patrice Evra may return from an ankle injury.

Meanwhile, John O'Shea thinks a clean sheet against the Serie A giants on Tuesday is vital if United are to win a place in next month's Final.

Sir Alex Ferguson has a defensive headache as Rio Ferdinand, Gary Neville, Vidic and Mikael Silvestre will all miss the game against the in-form Italian outfit, but O'Shea remains optimistic about United's chances.

"Most importantly, we want a clean sheet. That's first and foremost," he told Manchester United Radio.

"Obviously any victory - 1-0 or 2-0 - would be ideal because we know we're more than capable of scoring away from home. The attacking form of the team this season has been immense.

"People have been saying Milan are old and we're a fresher, younger team, but it doesn't work like that.

"They have some outstanding players and we know that if we lose concentration at any stage in the game, they're more than capable of punishing us.

"They might not be able to move as well, but they'll get to the ball just as quickly because of their thinking speed."
