Van der Sar a concern to Fergie
18 Dec 2009 - 12:26:32
Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has revealed that goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar is returning to Holland in a bid to cast fresh light over his troublesome knee injury.
The 39-year-old keeper has missed the last seven games after suffering a blow to the knee in a Premier League victory over Everton last month.
Ferguson was hoping to have the veteran Dutchman back in his squad over the festive period but the injury is showing no signs of progression so van der Sar is to seek advice from his former national team doctor.
"Edwin is going back to Holland," said Ferguson. "It is a change of scenery for him and the Holland team doctor will have a look at the injury.
"He has never had an injury like this in his life before so we think it is a good idea and expect him back in a couple of days."
Meanwhile, Ferguson has revealed that Nemanja Vidic could be available for Saturday's trip to Fulham despite the Serbia defender appearing to pick up a calf problem during the midweek win over Wolves.
