Manchester United have won their first double of the season after Sir Alex Ferguson and Ryan Giggs were handed the monthly awards for August.

After winning their first three matches of the season, and scoring ten goals in the process, United boss Ferguson won the manager of the month award while Wales international Giggs was awarded the player equivalent.

During August, United beat Fulham 5-1, Charlton Athletic 3-0 and Watford 2-1.

Giggs has never won the award before despite appearing in nearly 500 League games for United during almost 16 years at Old Trafford.
