    United wait on keeper news

    12 Oct 2007 - 08:45:46

Manchester United goalkeeper Edwin Van der Sar has been forced to withdraw from the Holland squad with the foot injury that sidelined him for the last two club matches.

The veteran keeper missed United's Champions League victory over AS Roma and last weekend's Premier League win over Wigan Athletic with a toe injury.

The 36-year-old was replaced at half-time during the previous week's league meeting with Birmingham City.

Number two Tomasz Kuszczak has deputised for the last two games and could continue between the posts when United return to domestic action at Aston Villa on October 20.

Van der Sar reported for international duty ahead of the Netherlands' Euro 2008 qualifiers against Romania and Slovenia but has been sent home by coach Marco van Basten

"This is a pity," said van Basten. "He is an important player, our captain.

"But our train of thought at these games stays the same. We especially have to watch ourselves."
