    United trio lead the way

    16 Apr 2007 - 12:26:57

Manchester United dominate the nominations for the PFA Player of the Year award, with the Red Devils having three players on the six-man shortlist.

Cristiano Ronaldo, Ryan Giggs and Paul Scholes all win the nod for their efforts, along with Chelsea striker Didier Drogba, Arsenal midfielder Cesc Fabregas and Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard.

Gerrard took the award last season, but is an outside bet to retain the crown this time around.

Top spot is likely to be a straight battle between Portugal wing wizard Ronaldo and Blues striker Drogba, who has scored 30 goals in all competitions this season.

Ronaldo and Fabregas are also among the nominees for the Young Player of the Year award, as is the former's team-mate, Wayne Rooney.

Reading's Kevin Doyle makes the list after a superb first season in the top-flight, while Spurs winger Aaron Lennon and Manchester City defender Micah Richards complete the sextet.
