    United sweat over injured Rio

    16 Sep 2009 - 07:51:31

Sir Alex Ferguson is hoping Rio Ferdinand will be fit for Sunday's derby after missing Manchester United's Champions League victory over Besiktas.

The defender missed Tuesday's 1-0 win in Turkey with a slight groin problem picked up on his return to action against Tottenham Hotspur last weekend.

Ferdinand had started the new season bothered by calf problem and Ferguson is keeping his fingers crossed that the England international will be passed fit for Manchester City's high-profile visit to Old Trafford.

"We'll have to wait and see," said Ferguson when asked about his chances.

"He felt his groin in training after the game on Saturday and it wasn't worth the risk.

"He couldn't even make the bench (against Besiktas), so we'll just have to give him time for Sunday."
