    United suffer Rooney blow

    12 Aug 2007 - 19:06:35

Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney faces a spell on the sidelines after suffering a hairline fracture of his left foot in Sunday's goalless draw with Reading at Old Trafford.

The England international had to be substituted at half-time after being caught by Royals defender Michael Duberry.

Ferguson said after the stalemate when asked about Rooney's injury: "We don't really know, we're waiting to see how the scan goes. We've sent him for a scan and hopefully everything's ok.

"It was painful, he couldn't really stand on it. I don't think it's the same injury as the last, obviously we hope and pray that that's the case.

"But it was sore and it started to swell so there was no point in trying anything for the second half."

Rooney has already suffered two metatarsal injuries during his career, the last just before the start of the 2006 World Cup finals.
