United suffer Ferdinand blow

Manchester United could be without central defender Rio Ferdinand for two or three games after a calf injury ruled him out of his side's Premier League opener against Birmingham City at Old Trafford on Sunday. Ferdinand suffered the injury on Friday during training and will undergo a scan on Monday to determine how long he will be out for. "I wouldn't think he will play against Burnley next week," manager Alex Ferguson, who was already without Nemanja Vidic, told Sky Sports. "I would think he is out for the next two or three games actually which is a bit of blow." United's defensive worries were increased 15 minutes from time when Jonny Evans limped off and was replaced by Wes Brown.
