United star Berbatov could be in line for shock Bulgaria recall in their clash with Ireland

Manchester United striker Dimitar Berbatov could be in line for a shock recall to the Bulgaria squad this weekend Dimitar Berbatov could be in line for a shock recall to the Bulgaria squad this weekend. The Manchester United striker was ruled out of Saturday's World Cup qualifier against the Republic of Ireland at Croke Park with an ankle injury. Although a return has been described as 'highly unlikely' by Bulgaria's medical staff, Berbatov's Old Trafford team-mate John O'Shea has warned his Ireland colleagues to expect the £30 million striker to make a surprise appearance in Dublin. Speaking in Malahide, Ireland striker Kevin Doyle said: 'I was just talking to John O'Shea and he said you never know, he might make a late appearance. 'Hopefully they are missing him, he's their best player so every little helps. 'He said it wasn't definite he was out, you never know, he might still be involved. We'll wait and see, obviously. 'It would be sensational if he came in late, considering we'd heard he wasn't going to be here. He's not a million miles away in Manchester either if he was to be fit.' Ireland keeper Shay Given missed training again on Tuesday after staying in Manchester for further treatment to a shoulder injury but he is expected to be fit for the weekend and next week's trip to Italy.
