United set Larsson fee
10 Jan 2007 - 09:11:36
Manchester United will have to stump up a reported £1.2million to retain loan star Henrik Larsson until the end of the season.
The former Celtic and Barcelona striker is on loan from Swedish club Helsingborgs until March 12.
The 35-year-old scored on his United debut in last weekend's FA Cup third round victory over Aston Villa, leading to reports that Sir Alex Ferguson wanted to retain his services beyond the original 12-week deadline.
Reports in The Sun claim United will have to pay Helsingborgs £1.2million in compensation to keep the veteran hitman until the end of the season.
"The exact sum a deal like this will cost United depends on a lot of circumstances," chairman Sten-Inge Fredin is quoted as saying.
"For example, we would have to decide if we need to replace him in our own team.
"It is, first and foremost, up to Henrik if he will stay in Manchester. If he wants that, then we are certainly up for discussions with United."
