United must show some spirit - Crerand

IN his glory years with Manchester United in the 60s and 70s, Scottish warrior, Paddy Crerand, never walked away from a scrap. And Crerand insists that Alex Ferguson's players will have to scrap from first whistle to last on Wednesday night if they are to deny their `noisy neighbours' a place in the Carling Cup final. "I'm United through and through," insisted Crerand. "But I'm not so biased that I can't concede that City have got the best team they've had in years. "The old rivalry between the two Manchester clubs is back. You can forget about Liverpool being United's main rivals. Once again, City are the team that the Old Trafford fans want to beat above all else - and that's exactly how it should be. "Personally, I thought that United were unlucky not to come out of the first leg with at least a draw - how they didn't score in those incredible last 15 minutes I will never know. But full marks to City for keeping United out because that one-goal advantage tomorrow night could very well influence the result of the game. "The way the Premier League is panning out these days, even a one-goal start for any team is a huge bonus. "I don't know if any of Fergie's players picked up an injury against Hull, but I do know that he will field his strongest possible team tomorrow. "Let's be honest. Even though there is a Wembley cup final at stake, if United had been playing any team other than City in the semi-finals, Sir Alex would have sent out the kids. "But he knows the mood of the United supporters. He knows the fans are desperate to beat City and he will do everything he can in terms of team selection to try and make sure that happens. The United players will be fired up every bit as much as the fans will be. "That's why I'm tipping United to edge through. It's going to be one hell of an occasion but I believe United's big-match experience will see them through - just." What do you think? Have your say.
