Former Manchester United captain Bryan Robson could be handed an ambassadorial role at Old Trafford.
Robson spent 13 years with United following his transfer from West Brom in 1981 and went on to score 98 goals in 461 appearances for the club.
After calling an end to his United career in 1994, he went on to manage Middlesbrough, Bradford City and West Brom before taking the reins at Sheffield United last summer.
However, he was axed by the Blades last month when they were struggling in the bottom half of the Championship table.
Director of communications, Phil Townsend, told United's official website: "Bryan's a key figure in our past.
"If he wished to take on such a role, then we'd be delighted to see him return to the club."
