    United handed fine

    04 Feb 2008 - 15:25:59

The Football Association has fined Manchester United £25,000 after Sir Alex Ferguson's side had seven players booked in Saturday's 1-1 draw at Tottenham.

The automatic fine is imposed when a team picks up six or more yellow cards in a match.

However, United will not face any further disciplinary action even though several of their players argued with the assistant referee after Tottenham's goal wad allowed to stand.

United were adamant that Jermaine Jenas had handled the ball in the build-up to Dimitar Berbatov's goal.

However, Rio Ferdinand told the Manchester Evening News: "I thought they were fortunate with their goal. It was handball and how the linesman didn't see it I will never know.

"I was behind it and I could see it and I don't know how the linesman didn't. That's why I was remonstrating with him.

"I thought he handled it. Owen (Hargreaves) would have cleaned up if he hadn't hit the ball with his hand and then it led to the cross and the goal."
