    United dominate team choice

    27 Apr 2009 - 07:43:02

Manchester United players dominated the Premier League Team of the Year as named by the Professional Footballers' Association.

Veteran midfielder Ryan Giggs celebrated being named player of the year by headlining a six-strong group of Old Trafford stars in the annual selection.

Defenders Rio Ferdinand, Nemanja Vidic, Patrice Evra, winger Cristiano Ronaldo and goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar were all named in the all-star XI.

However, there was no place in the side for England striker Wayne Rooney.

Elsewhere, United's main title rivals Liverpool had two players honoured after captain Steven Gerrard and striker Fernando Torres were named.

Portsmouth and England defender Glen Johnson was given the nod at right-back, while there was a surprise inclusion for Chelsea Nicolas Anelka up front.

PFA young player of the year Ashley Young of Aston Villa completed the line-up.

Premier League Team of the Year 2008/09: Edwin Van der Sar (Manchester United), Glen Johnson (Portsmouth), Rio Ferdinand (Man Utd), Nemanja Vidic (Man Utd), Patrice Evra (Man Utd), Ashley Young (Aston Villa), Steven Gerrard (Liverpool), Ryan Giggs (Man Utd), Cristiano Ronaldo (Man Utd), Nicolas Anelka (Chelsea), Fernando Torres (Liverpool).
