Manchester United have announced that they have finally completed the protracted signing of Argentina forward Carlos Tevez.
The 23-year-old joins the Red Devils on a two-year loan, after securing his release from West Ham United.
A United club statement said: "Manchester United is delighted to announce that Carlos Tevez has been registered as a member of its first-team squad by the Premier League."
United boss Sir Alex Ferguson is delighted to finally have Tevez at his disposal, but says the South American ace will not feature in the Premier League opener against Reading this weekend.
He added: "It is completely understandable the Premier League wanted to scrutinise every detail.
"I am happy with that because then we know we are getting a player in the right circumstances, with everything clarified and cleared by the appropriate authorities.
"We know he is our player, but even if it was all done today, I wouldn't use him on Sunday. It would more likely be against Manchester City next weekend.
"Carlos has surprised us. We thought he would need more training, but he looks in great shape.
"It is a difficult situation to assess because a derby game can be frenetic. Once we know he can play, we can make a decision quite easily."
