Manchester United have confirmed that midfielder Paul Scholes will be sidelined for around ten weeks after suffering a knee injury in the Champions League win at Aalborg BK.
The former England international had to be replaced just 16 minutes into the game in Denmark, with tests showing that Scholes had suffered medial ligament damage in his right knee.
Manager Sir Alex Ferguson had earlier told the club's official website: "There were a lot of plus points, but we lost Paul Scholes who could be out for a few weeks.
"We had one or two other injuries. Young Rafael got injured and Wayne Rooney has an ankle problem. He felt a weakness in it when he went to receive a ball and we took him off straightaway.
"So there was maybe a cost to pay for the victory. Nonetheless we have four points now and it's where we want to be."
Meanwhile, Ferguson has spoken of the positive impression that young right-back Rafael da Silva made in Denmark.
He added: "We have great hopes for the lad. He has impressed us a lot.
"Some people might have been a bit surprised I picked him over Wes Brown, but I feel the boy has something special.
"Rafael has no fear of playing and has great belief in himself. He is only 18 but he has started very well.
"He did well against Middlesbrough last week and he has progressed again. He is really positive and has a great chance in the future."
