United claim Tevez offer
14 May 2009 - 07:32:16
Carlos Tevez still looks set to leave Manchester United at the end of the season despite Sir Alex Ferguson claiming the club has made an offer to keep him at Old Trafford.
Tevez scored a vital equaliser in Wednesday's 2-1 victory over Wigan Athletic which moved United to the brink of another Premier League title.
Afterwards Ferguson claimed that the club had tabled an offer for the Argentina striker following a series of talks.
Tevez is coming towards the end of a two-year loan contract and recently suggested his future was likely to be away from Old Trafford.
Speaking after the victory at the JJB Stadium, Ferguson told MUTV: "I think we've had progress today.
"(Chief executive) David Gill's had a good meeting today, I've spoken to Carlos and we've given him an offer we hope he accepts. That's where we are.
"He's a great little player and once again he's shown his mettle. He's scored so many important goals and he's got another one for us tonight."
However, Tevez's advisor, Kia Joorabchian, claims that no offer has been made for the 25-year-old striker, who has scored 33 goals in 96 appearances for the Red Devils,
In a statement, a spokesman for Joorabchian said: "It is true David Gill came to see Mr Joorabchian and they had a cordial meeting.
"It is categorically untrue that Manchester United made an offer to try to persuade Carlos Tevez to stay at the club.
"In 2007 Manchester United agreed a two-year loan deal for Carlos Tevez and at the same time agreed the terms that would make the transfer permanent.
"They have not taken up that option."
