    United calm over sponsors

    17 Sep 2008 - 13:40:51

Manchester United claim they remain 'financially strong' despite the near collapse of their main sponsors AIG this week.

American International Group is the latest financial institution to suffer from the global credit crunch and had to be bailed out by the US Federal Reserve with a $85billion rescue package on Tuesday.

Their collapse would have been the largest ever bankruptcy in US financial history.

United are currently in the third of a four-year deal with AIG worth a record £56.5million and they remain confident that their sponsor's financial problems will not impact upon their own business.

"It is business as usual for us," said a spokesman for the Glazer family, who own the Old Trafford club following their takeover in 2004.

    "Manchester United is financially strong.

"We have not been adversely affected by the credit crunch."
