    United calm Hargreaves fear

    09 Dec 2007 - 11:01:21

Sir Alex Ferguson expects Owen Hargreaves to be fit to face Liverpool next weekend despite the midfielder injuring his calf in the warm-up before Saturday's game with Derby.

The England international was replaced in the starting line-up by Michael Carrick as United eventually won 4-1 at Old Trafford.

Hargreaves has endured an injury-plagued start to life with the Red Devils after suffering with a string of niggling knee problems following his summer move from Bayern Munich.

The 26-year-old has made just nine appearances for United following his £17million arrival.

However, United boss Ferguson expects the combative midfielder to be available for the trip to Anfield next Sunday.

"Owen had a slight strain in his calf in the warm-up," he told the club's official website.

"We can't take chances at this time of year with the number of games we have in December, so we withdrew him and brought Michael Carrick in."
