United accept Fletcher ban

Manchester United have accepted UEFA's decision to uphold Darren Fletcher's Champions League final suspension.

On Monday, the Old Trafford outfit had an appeal against the red card the Scot picked up in the semi-final second leg win at Arsenal rejected.

European football's governing body said they threw the appeal out because there "were no grounds for contesting the referee's original decision."

After the announcement, a United spokesman explained: "Darren is an honest player and we felt we should do what we could to try and help him become eligible for the Champions League final by initially protesting his dismissal.

"However, we respect the referee's decision and we will therefore not be appealing against today's ruling."

Barcelona's Eric Abidal and Dani Alves have also had appeals against their suspensions rejected.
