United accept Evra suspension
16 Dec 2008 - 15:03:42
Manchester United have decided not to appeal against the four-match FA suspension given to Patrice Evra for his clash with a member of Chelsea's groundstaff.
French left-back Evra was punished for aiming a blow at a member of the Chelsea groundstaff following the meeting of the two sides at Stamford Bridge back in April.
United had previously hinted that they would appeal against the verdict, with manager Sir Alex Ferguson far from happy with the outcome of a recent FA disciplinary hearing.
He had earlier said: "It was a shock. Of all the things the FA have done to us down the years that was one of their biggest. I could not believe it.
"You could never tell what these people are doing. Even if I was sitting having breakfast with them, I would not know what they were thinking.
"A lot of people have been ringing about it because it is the most incredible decision in my time at this club. The FA have done many things, but this is absolutely beyond me."
United's statement at the time of Evra's hearing had read: "Manchester United notes the announcement from the FA and is disappointed with the decision and in particular considers the sanctions against Patrice Evra excessive."
