Tottenham to make 20m move for former Manchester United striker Diego Forlan

Tottenham are preparing a £20million bid for Atletico Madrid striker Diego Forlan. Spurs boss Harry Redknapp wants to boost his attacking options as the Londoners prepare for life in the Champions League - and he wants to make a move for the 31-year-old former Manchester United player. Forlan has shown his qualities consistently in the Spanish league, and scored a late winner to break the resolve of Fulham in last month's Europa League final. In demand: Forlan in action for Uruguay against Israel in their friendly clash last week The Uruguayan's agent Daniel Bolotnicoff said: 'Forlan is a player who a lot of people are interested about in the European market. Each of the seasons many clubs show interest in him. 'This is not the first time that a Premier League club have wanted to try to buy him back. At the moment, though, he is concentrating on the World Cup finals.' Redknapp is believed to be happy to sell Robbie Keane, who went out on loan to Celtic last term, and Roman Pavlyuchenko. Triumph: Forlan scores Atletico Madrid's late winner in May's Europa League final against Fulham And Forlan could be one of his big buys of the summer, according to reports in the Star. Atletico have not qualified for the Champions League this season so are in a position where they will probably need to sell some players. It is believed that Marseille are also interested in signing Forlan but will struggle to match his £60,000-a-week wages.
