Manchester United winger Zoran Tosic is on the verge of joining CSKA Moscow after Cologne admitted they could not afford the 23-year-old.
The Serbia international spent the second half of last season on loan at Cologne and impressed the Bundesliga outfit enough for them to launch a bid to sign the player on a permanent basis.
However, CSKA have reportedly made an £8million bid for Tosic as they look to sign a replacement for Milos Krasic, who is set to move to Italy this summer.
Cologne director Michael Meier confirmed: "We made him an offer to stay. But the sums of money put before him make it hard for any German club to compete.
"But, in the end, there are only winners in the deal. We stayed in the league thanks to Tosic, Zoran was able to show his form and is at the World Cup and Manchester United can achieve their asking price."
Tosic failed to start a game for United but found the net five times in 13 appearances during his time in Cologne.
