Toshack hails exiting Giggs
03 Jun 2007 - 11:31:08
Wales boss John Toshack says that Ryan Giggs was pleased with his side's performance in the goalless draw against the Czech Republic, as he bowed out of the international scene.
Giggs called time after 64 caps for Wales, helping his side impress against one of the most highly-rated teams in Europe.
Toshack said: "Ryan came into the dressing room and told the lads that what they had just done was the benchmark for a performance at this level.
"He said that was how we should always play. He told the lads that it had been as good a performance as anything he had seen from Wales over the last couple of years.
"That performance did him credit and the team. He is a perfectionist and he saw a good display, a decent result against one of the world's top sides and a weight off his shoulders.
"We have to move on now, but I can only thank him for his contribution to Welsh football.
"There were over 30,000 supporters here and that is a lot more than we expected at the beginning of the week. If Ryan did not realise how well he is thought of in Wales, he certainly does now."
