Undoubtedly the man who tops this list in the legend himself, Peter Schmeichel.
Manchester United bought him 1991 for £505,000 which was described in 2000 by Sir Alex Ferguson as 'the bargain of the century.' Proven by the success he had with Manchester United – Schmeichel won five Premier League titles, three FA Cups, one League Cup and the UEFA Champions League.
In the Premier League's debut season Schmeichel kept 22 clean sheets which helped United win the Premier League. He was named 'The Worlds Best Goalkeeper' in 1992 and 1993 for his performances internationally and domestically.
Despite being a goalkeeper, Schmeichel would occasionally run into the attack on corner kicks if his team were behind. Schmeichel became the first goalkeeper in The Barlcays Premier League to score in open play. Schmeichel's most successful season was no doubt his last with Manchester United. Winning the Premier League, UEFA Champions League and the FA Cup. Schmeichel captained the side for the Champions League final against Bayern Munich, he cartwheeled gleefully in celebration after Manchester United's winning goal.
Schmeichel was also a phenomenon on the international stage with Denmark. He won the 1992 UEFA European Championship with some stellar performances. A penalty save against Marco van Basten sent Denmark into the final – with Schmeichel then going on to catch a cross – with one hand, in the final.
He went on to make 129 appearances for the Denmark national side – even managing to score for them too. In total, Schmeichel made 740 career appearances, scoring 10 goals in the process.
