Toe blow sidelines Edwin
30 Sep 2007 - 13:25:54
Manchester United will be without Edwin Van der Sar for the Champions League clash with AS Roma this week after the Dutch goalkeeper suffered a toe injury against Birmingham City.
The 36-year-old had to be replaced at half-time of the Red Devils' 1-0 win at St Andrew's, with Tomasz Kuszczak taking over for the second 45 minutes.
United boss Sir Alex Ferguson confirmed: "Edwin has damaged his toe. To what extent, we are not sure.
"We will send him for a scan, but he will definitely be out on Tuesday.
"It is a worry to lose a man of his experience, but Tomasz is very able and we are pleased we've got someone as good as him."
United number two Carlos Queiroz added: "Tomasz made one very good save and showed why he is a Manchester United player.
"It is very hard for him behind a player as good as Edwin and he has had to wait for his opportunity, but we are very confident in his ability and we have no worries."
